Summary

The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) is seeking two Legal Interns to join our Legal Division—one undergraduate student and one law student.

These internships offer flexible scheduling and the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that impact housing, economic development, and public policy across Iowa.


About Us

The Iowa Finance Authority was created in 1975 to advance affordable housing opportunities for Iowans.

Since that time, we have helped thousands of Iowans purchase their first home or find a rental home in which their families can thrive.

The Iowa Finance Authority has grown to provide a wealth of resources for Iowans, including low-cost water quality financing for communities, assistance for beginning farmers to establish their farming operations, homelessness assistance for Iowans in need and residential and commercial title protection.

IFA is co-located and shares certain staff with the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA).


About the Legal Division

The Legal Division includes the Legal and Policy Team, Iowa Title Guaranty (ITG), and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).

The Legal & Policy Team provides legal counsel and policy guidance to agency staff and boards/committees, and ITG is Iowa’s exclusive title coverage provider for real property.


Internship Overview (Both Tracks)

  • Timing & Flexibility: At least part-time during May–August (up to 40 hours/week in summer). Expectation of part-time work during the academic year; scheduling is flexible.
  • Compensation: These are paid internships.
  • Project Experience: You’ll contribute to substantive legal work, including document review, legal research and writing, and supporting real estate transactions


Undergraduate Legal Intern Track

Best for students in an accredited undergraduate program with strong interest in real estate, public administration, and/or public policy.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree program.
  • Strong writing skills, attention to detail, and curiosity about real estate and public policy.


Law Student Legal Intern Track

Best for students currently enrolled in law school with interest in real estate transactions and public policy (legislation and administrative rules).

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a juris doctorate degree program at an accredited educational institution
  • Demonstrated legal research/writing skills and interest in real estate and policy work.

Additional Qualification Requirements:
