Summary

This job involves supporting military court proceedings by managing digital recordings, preparing paperwork, and organizing court files for the Navy's legal office in Norfolk, Virginia.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a LEGAL ASSISTANT (COURT) (OA) in theREGION LEGAL SERVICE OFC MID-ATLANTIC.

I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience includes duties related to the following: 1) Preparing, receiving, reviewing, and verifying documents; 2) Preparing, proofreading, or editing trial exhibits and an accurate verbatim or summarized transcript of court proceedings; 3) Locating and compiling data or information from files; 4) Compiling information for reports; 5) Keeping a calendar and informing others of deadlines and other important dates; and similar clerical support work within an organization.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will monitor and annotate events for all assigned digitally recorded general and special courts-martial and other legal or quasi-legal proceedings while proceedings occur.
  • You will ensure proper supplies and equipment are present in courtroom and arranges for seating plan and name tags for court-martial members, attorneys, and military judges.
  • You will prepare and distribute all post-trial paperwork, to include Statement of Trial Results for convening authorities, and confinement orders for accused sentenced to confinement.
  • You will maintain complete post-trial court files in orderly fashion for future reference.
  • You will attend weekly court docketing meetings where the military judges, trial counsel, and defense counsel review the scheduled courts-martial.
  • You will collate, assemble, and certify a complete and accurate record of trial for proceedings in accordance with established timelines and post-trial processing requirements.
