This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center Health Administration Department (HAS)/Veterans Transportation Service).
The Lead Transportation Assistant assists with the oversight of the clerical staff and performs general program support such as travel eligibility interviews, collection, compilation, research and tracking of financial and demographic information to support VA programs.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/04/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: overseeing daily activities of clerical staff who perform travel eligibility interviews, collection, compilation, research and tracking of financial and demographic information to support VA programs; perform transportation support duties such as coordinating connections/scheduling, documenting travel information; collecting, compiling, and tracking data on a daily basis; performing basic analysis of data and generates a variety of reports; entering data into automated tracking data bases; planning and directing a program that provides support services; receiving invoices for payment of transportation services; utilize the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) to review medical records; process Veteran claim reimbursements utilizing BTSSS allowing claimants to submit and track travel claims at their convenience and communicate and treat customers in a courteous, tactful and respectful manner.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Physical Requirements: The work requires no special physical demands, but will require some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, or sitting.

Major Duties:
Duties include but are not limited to: Demonstrates personal mastery of broad interpersonal skills Prepares and produce written instructions, and a variety of correspondence Demonstrates thorough knowledge of structure of electronic medical records Works with various departments within the medical center and the policies and procedures of each unit as they relate to the Veteran Transportation Service Program clinics and patient care.
Makes sound and logical decision on day-to-day operations, identifying and utilizing all appropriate available resources.
Makes knowledgeable decisions in regard to consult management, scheduling, admissions, discharge, transfer, and administration with patient processing including diagnostic tests and studies.
