Job Description

Summary

This job is for a lead security guard at a military ocean terminal in Concord, California, where you'll oversee patrols, use advanced equipment to protect sensitive national assets from threats like theft, sabotage, or drones, and respond to emergencies while enforcing safety rules.

It's a hands-on role involving shift leadership, boat and vehicle patrols, and working in tough outdoor conditions year-round.

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Shift Leader serves at the one of the two Military Ocean Terminals (MOT). Position is located in Concord, CA with the 834th U.S. Army Transportation Command.

Specialized Experiences: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in working in a Federal, State, municipal, local or private organization that involves the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; maintaining order; protecting life; writing and reviewing incident reports; responding to emergency situations and security breaches; and controlling access to highly restricted areas with critical resources/assets of National Security importance.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Use a variety of state-of-the-art physical security equipment to protect MOT national security assets from all threats to include waterborne, vehicle-borne, rail-borne and airborne to include drone technology.
  • Guards at MOTs routinely participate in antiterrorism committees and fusion cells and directly protect critical resources to include Arms, Ammunition and Explosives, and other classified objects moving through the MOT via rail, ship or vehicle.
  • Serve as the DASG Shift Leader who is an assistant to the Guard Supervisor with primary responsibility to lead activities of patrols, static posts and harbor security operations.
  • Perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, pilferage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage and to enforce the security and safety regulations of the terminal.
  • Lead and perform vehicular patrol in restricted and administrative areas of the installation and on harbor patrol watercraft providing security measures for personnel, ships/boats and trains entering the Terminal.
  • DASG duties are strenuous due to many conditions of employment such as passing an occupational medical exam, taking an annual physical fitness test and working in the elements during both summer and winter.
