Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of firefighters in responding to emergencies, controlling fires, performing rescues, and handling hazardous materials at a naval installation, including high-risk airfield operations with aircraft and fuels.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in firefighting and emergency response who enjoys training others and ensuring safety in demanding environments.

It requires strong leadership skills and the ability to work in a military setting.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-07 in firefighting, including controlling fires in organized departments
  • Experience in performing rescue operations and crash rescue at airfields

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Lead Firefighter (BLS/HAZMAT TECHNICIAN) in the Fire and Emergency Services Department of NAVSUPPACT SOUDA BAY.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department brigade, AND Performing rescue operations, AND Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards, AND Controlling hazardous materials incidents, AND Performing work at airfields handling aircraft carrying large volumes of fuel, sometimes including nuclear weapons or highly flammable or explosive cargo.

  • You will serve as a lead fire fighter assigned to lead a crew engaged in firefighting and rescue operations and assist in reducing and eliminating potential fire hazards.
  • You will lead a crew assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or airport rescue fire fighting vehicle in operations.
  • You will resolve simple informal complaints.
  • Your will instruct employees on specific tasks and firefighting techniques and provide written instructions and reference materials and supplies.
  • You will direct and participate in practice drills and training classes.
  • You will perform regular and periodic fire protection inspection for all areas of the installation.
  • You will review engineering plans and specifications for new construction, alteration, and extension of existing structures.
  • You will perform pre-fire planning by physically going through structures to become familiar with the layout, fire hazards, and locations of fixed fire protection systems.
  • You will participate in controlling and extinguishing fires by operating hoses, ladders, and hydrants.
  • You will lead and preform crash rescue and firefighting duties involving air traffic.
  • You will perform work at airfields handling aircraft carrying large volumes of fuel, conventional and sometimes nuclear weapons or highly flammable or explosive cargo or handling a large number of air moves with high crash or fire potential.
  • You will support operations involving extensive flightline repair work, hot pit refueling, or the storage of large quantities of gasoline and other fuels.
  • You will operated pumps, foam generators, boom and ground sweep nozzles, and other similar equipment.
  • You will survey the incident to identify the materials involved, determine whether hazardous materials have been released and evaluate surrounding conditions.
  • You will perform rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare victims for transport.
