Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This is a Firefighter (Basic Life Support), GS-0081-08, position US Army Aviation Center of Excellence located in Fort Rucker, Alabama.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing or providing training in fire protection and prevention.

******In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement for the GS-08 Grade: Must be certified within the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Fire Fighter Certification system at Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, Emergency Medical Technician and current state drivers license.

All certificates and licenses must be uploaded with application. Major Duties:

  • Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and searches for medical alert symbols.
  • Responds to fires and directs the crew in firefighting activities.
  • Participate in on-the-job training designed to keep employees current on work processes or procedures.
  • Evaluates work in progress; amends or rejects work not meeting established standards.
