Job Description

Summary

This job involves managing and tracking legal case records, using computer systems to organize litigation documents, and providing support for legal information in a U.S. Attorney's office.

Full Job Description

As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement. Salary range contains multiple steps.

In most cases, the salary will be set at the starting point of the range for the grade level qualified for new federal employees.

Cleveland/Akron: GS-8: $58,350 to $75,852 Toledo: GS-8: $55,882 to $72,644 To qualify at the GS-8 level you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 federal level.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

Specialized Experience is defined as performing the following types of duties: utilizing computerized office automation software that includes case tracking and/or record-keeping systems; providing legal support related to the control and/or administration of litigation records or docketing; collecting, organizing and/or providing legal information in oral or written format.

To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

(A typing test may later be required.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.

If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.

If selected for this position, you will be responsible for performing docketing and complex legal report development using computerized case tracking and record-keeping systems for the United States Attorney's Office, Northern District of Ohio.

Typical duties include: Leads the Docketing Technicians in the unit. Distributes work, monitors status of work in progress, and ensures a high quality of work product.

Serves as a source of procedural and systemic information on all aspects of docketing functions.

Functioning as the docketing system subject matter expert and training other employees on related processes and procedures.

Maintaining and extracting data from automated docketing databases and systems. Inputting information into databases and systems and updating records.

Developing and maintaining automated records from initial referral to final disposition and case file closure.

Receiving and reviewing incoming case files and documents; analyzing content to determine the nature of the office's interest and cause of action.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
