Job Description

Summary

This role involves leading a team of accounting technicians in processing financial transactions, reviewing documents for accuracy, and ensuring work is completed on time at a Defense Finance and Accounting Service site in Maine.

It requires hands-on experience with accounting systems and supervising daily tasks in a structured environment.

A good fit would be someone with a couple of years in accounting or finance roles, strong attention to detail, and the ability to guide others while handling complex financial issues.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 for GS-06 level, involving processing financial transactions and using automated systems

This position requires regular on-site attendance at the designated DFAS location in Limestone, Maine.

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-05 for entry grade GS-06; GS-06 for entry grade GS-07) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

GS-06 QUALIFICATIONS One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-05) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized Experience For The GS-06 Is Defined As: Performing financial duties that support the processing of financial/accounting transactions using standardized procedures to include reviewing documents for accuracy and inputting financial/accounting information into an automated system and correcting invalid/incorrect transactions.

GS-06 Time-In-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-05 or higher grade in Federal Service.

GS-07 QUALIFICATIONS One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized Experience For The GS-07 Is Defined As: Maintaining accounting or financial ledgers, posting financial transactions, preparing accounting reports, reconciling accounts and working with a variety of accounting and automated financial system.

GS-07 Time-In-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-06 or higher grade in Federal Service.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

** The effective date of your SF-50 must reflect that you will meet the 52-week time in grade requirement within 30 days of the announcement closing.

** You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • Distributes and balances workload; ensures timely accomplishment of assigned work; monitors status and progress of work on a daily basis; maintains records of work accomplishments.
  • Reviews, amends, or rejects the work not meeting established standards. Accomplishes the most complex work referred by others.
  • Reviews and processes unusual or difficult accounting transactions ensuring the propriety and validity of supporting documentation, and determining the appropriate account and methodology for processing.
  • For vacancies filled at less than the full performance level of the position, duties will be developmental in nature.
