Job Description

Summary

This job involves working in a border patrol intelligence unit, where you'll gather, analyze, and share real-time data from computer systems to support law enforcement operations and keep officers safe.

You'll handle things like checking criminal records, warrants, and immigration details during active events.

Full Job Description

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Yuma Sector, Sector Intelligence Unit.

Additional selections may be made to include other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.

Required Experience: To qualify for the GS-07 grade level you must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Receiving, compiling and updating intelligence reports during real-time law enforcement operations.

Gathering and analyzing data collected through numerous automated systems ensuring proper status determinations are quick and accurate.

Directing and advising law enforcement officers using information derived automated systems. Analyzing actionable information during specific events that involve officer safety.

Identifying and reporting criminal history information, active warrants, and driver's license information.

To qualify for the GS-09 grade level you must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Creating intelligence reports based on extrapolated data, research and analysis.

Utilizing law enforcement databases, video/remote sensor data and geospatial information to collect and analyze tactical intelligence.

Utilizing national databases to determine identity, non-citizenship, and removability of individuals in accordance with Immigration laws, rules and regulations.

Conducting real-time, rapid research through a wide assortment of databases and information systems.

Identifying and reporting criminal history information, federal/state/local warrants, and driver's license information.

Education Substitution: GS-07: Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university.

OR A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) Review Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) to see if you qualify under this provision.

GS-09: Successful completion of two or more years of full-time graduate education; or a Master's (or higher) degree from an accredited college or university; or an LL.B. or J.D.

Combining Experience and Education: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages.

The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level.

Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grade GS-9.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 04/22/2026.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.

This position uses your knowledge and experience supporting law enforcement by providing real-time communications, intelligence, and information from law enforcement systems.

This position starts at a salary of $50,460.00 (GS-07, Step 1) to $80,243.00 (GS-09, Step 10) .

The Law Enforcement Information Systems Specialist provides multi-faceted analysis products include reports and real-time communication in support of intelligence and law enforcement operations.

Duties and responsibilities include: Intelligence gathering/analysis; creating intelligence reports based on extrapolated data, research, and analysis; analyzing tactical intelligence to produce reports impacting real-time enforcement operations within the Agency and other law enforcement agencies.

Video/Sensor Analysis: analyzing tactical surveillance video and imagery in conjunction with sensor alerts and other resources to detect and identify threats and incursions entering the U.S., relaying that information to agents in real-time.

GIS Analysis: providing law enforcement with rapid access to historical activity data to provide situational awareness and aid in operational effectiveness.

Database Analysis: utilizing a variety of law enforcement information systems to conduct data mining and analysis; assisting law enforcement with determining identity, citizenship, and criminal history ensuring officer safety.
