This job involves handling clean linens in a hospital setting by receiving, storing, sorting, and distributing them to different areas, along with maintaining records and assisting with truck loading.
It's a hands-on role in a busy laundry operation at a VA medical center in Syracuse, New York, with a standard daytime schedule.

This position is located in the Syracuse VA Medical Center.
The primary work involves the ordering of clean linen for distribution, the cleaning and sorting of delivery cars, assembling, issuing and loading clean laundry into trucks.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Major Duties:
Duties include, but are not limited to: Receiving bulk sets of linen from the finishing units. Storing clean linen on storage racks.
Preparing orders for clean linen delivery to wards, clinics, and other using areas. cleaning and sorting delivery carts prior to packing for distribution.
Receiving all incoming telephone calls for linen orders from using areas. Assisting in loading the clean delivery trucks. Maintaining accurate records of linen deliveries.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 0700-1530 Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD07338A Physical Requirements: Laundry workers must stand or walk continuously on concrete floors.
While they do not usually have to keep pace with machines, they need a certain amount of quickness in hand and arm movements to meet production standards.
They frequently lift or move bundles weighing up to 25 pounds; however, in receiving and shipping, occasional lifting of bulk bundles weighing 30 # is required.
Must be able to adjust work pace to existing workload, which will vary from day to day.
Must be able to maintain a good attendance record, possess emotional and mental stability, and work at a steady and efficient pace.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in the laundry service building. Employee is subject to a high temperatures, high humidity, and noise from machinery.
Workers are exposed to the possibility of bruises from carts or machinery.
Risk of exposure to contagious disease when performing sorting of soiled laundry- workers wear protective masks, gloves and gowns. Potential exposure to sharp objects (ex.
Sharps concealed in soiled laundry).
