Full Job Description

The Mackinac Bridge on a sunny day with blue skies and trees in the forefront with the MDOT logo and the MDOT webpage address.

This position performs technical land surveying assignments within the North Region while working toward obtaining professional licensing.

Duties include conducting land surveys for road and bridge design, completing global positioning system (GPS) topographic mapping, processing field data, and performing calculations of measurements.

Operate a motor vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Weight Rating (GVWR) of between 10,001 and 26,000 pounds when performing field work.


The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (9) level through the maximum rate at the advanced (12) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

Requirements

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree with a major in surveying.

Experience

Land Surveyor 9
No specific type or amount is required.

Land Surveyor 10
One year of professional experience conducting land surveys equivalent to a Land Surveyor 9.

Land Surveyor P11
Two years of professional experience conducting land surveys equivalent to a Land Surveyor, including one year equivalent to a Land Surveyor 10.

Land Surveyor 12
Three years of professional experience conducting land surveys equivalent to a Land Surveyor, including one year equivalent to a Land Surveyor P11.

  • Traverse City TSC (2084 US 31 Traverse City, MI 49686)


To be considered for this position you must:

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Possess a professional surveyor's license as required by the State of Michigan.
  • Possess a valid Medical Examiners Certificate for Commercial Driver Medical Certification.
