Advertised Job Summary

The Jilling Lab in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of South Carolina is seeking a full-time lab technician.

Our research is focused on soil organic matter dynamics that occur at the interface between clay minerals, microbes, and plants.

We apply soil biogeochemistry and stable isotope-based techniques to understand the controls on the storage and cycling of carbon and nitrogen.

The position will be primarily lab-based and will involve occasional work in the growth chamber and field.

The successful candidate will assist with lab setup and maintenance, operation of equipment, sampling and analysis of soil samples, and will contribute to data summary and analysis, and manuscript preparation.

Required Education and Experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a lab and exposure to the biological, chemical, and/or physical analysis of soil.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Taken coursework and/or engaged in research related to soil science

• Basic wet chemistry skills such as making standards or solutions

• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

• Ability to carry out lab protocols independently
