Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a kinesiotherapist at a military medical center, where you'll assess patients' health needs, create and carry out personalized exercise plans to help them recover or improve mobility, and teach patients and families about the rehab process.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience in developing treatment plans, educating patients/families, and maintaining medical records (equivalent to GS-07 level)
  • Master's degree or equivalent in kinesiotherapy, physical education, physical therapy, exercise science, or sports medicine
  • Two years of progressively higher graduate education leading to a relevant Master's degree
  • Combination of education and experience meeting 100% of qualification requirements

About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Student Loan repayment may be authorized.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing or implementing treatment plans, educating patients or family members, and maintaining medical records.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: kinesiotherapy, physical education, physical therapy, exercise science or sports medicine.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Perform initial assessment of patient to include; disease process, medication, orthopedic concerns, emotional concerns, activity levels, lifestyle modification, and patients goals.
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate patient’s treatment plan according to pathology, physiological response to increased activity, medications, orthopedic concerns, and the patients’ goals.
  • Ensure the patient and family members understand and accept the rehab process and address their questions and concerns.
  • Monitor individual patients exercise progress according to exercise prescription, pathology and physiological response to increased activity.
  • Adapt equipment to meet the specific needs of the patients.
  • Conduct patient/family teaching.
  • In case of cardiopulmonary arrest or respiratory distress, initiate appropriate emergency action in accordance with emergency protocols.
  • Enter patient treatment results into the computer within standard clinic policy.
