Full Job Description

The Iowa Judicial Branch, in District 1, seeks applicants for a Juvenile Court Services Supervisor to lead and manage Juvenile Court Services operations and resources.

This position is open ONLY to permanent employees of the Iowa Judicial Branch. External candidates, including candidates in any other branch or agency of the State, are not eligible to apply.

This position will assist in budget development and collaborate with a management team in operational decisions.

This position will provide administrative oversight of juvenile court officers and judicial operations clerks.

This position will work with various community entities to develop effective programming and guide casework to ensure clients receive the appropriate level and type of treatment.

This position will also assist in covering emergencies.

The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, time management skills, and sharp attention to detail.

The successful candidate will be able to communicate in-person and on the phone with a variety of court users, including judicial officers, attorneys, clients, agencies, and the public.

The successful candidate will be able to de-escalate sensitive situations and solve problems. This person will be able to maintain confidential and sensitive information.

Travel throughout the district will be required.

The pay range for this position is $69,992.00 - $111,800.00 annually. This is a FLSA-exempt position. The starting salary for new state employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. Adjustments may be made if the successful candidate has relevant experience.

Position classification is determined as the ‘best fit’ of the duties assigned to and performed by a position. This position is classified as a Juvenile Court Services Supervisor as summarized below.

Summary

Responsible to lead and manage Juvenile Court Services operations and resources.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure Juvenile Court Services operations are compliant with the law, and with the rules, directives, and procedures of the Iowa Judicial Branch and the judicial district.
  • Ensure Juvenile Court Office decisions and actions are safe, compliant, consistent, and equitable.
  • Direct daily operations and workload, establish priorities, develop deadlines, and oversee Juvenile Court Services operations planning and success.
  • Implement continuous quality improvements and assess, monitor, and evaluate Juvenile Court activities, processes, and services.
  • Supervise Juvenile Court Officers and staff. Manage staffing, scheduling, workload, and performance.
  • Ensure Juvenile Court Services training is completed for assigned staff.
  • Identify potential opportunities or problems within Juvenile Court Services and develop possible solutions.
  • Coach Juvenile Court Officers through challenging issues, anticipate escalation and take over when needed.
  • Implement efficient use of resources and budgets, effective practices, and accurate reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The incumbent must meet the minimum requirements to qualify for the position.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in law, criminal justice, criminology, psychology, sociology, education, or related social sciences.
  2. Six (6) years of related experience in a juvenile justice or criminal justice field.

A completed IJB LinkedIn Learning Leadership and Professional Development Certificate is equivalent to six (6) months of education or experience for supervisory-level positions.
