Incumbents of positions in this series keep buildings in clean and orderly condition; maintain the appearance and cleanliness of floors; wash interior surfaces of buildings such as walls, ceilings, windows, etc.; maintain grounds around buildings; empty waste receptacles; move furniture; and perform related work as required.
The basic purpose of this work is to provide cleaning/maintenance services to ensure that assigned premises are properly cleaned and maintained.
Requirements
Keeps buildings in clean and orderly condition by performing a combination of activities, including cleaning assigned areas and making minor repairs to buildings using hand tools and equipment.
Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of floors by sweeping and mopping and by utilizing building custodial equipment such as polishers, buffers, vacuum cleaners and carpet shampooers.
Washes interior surfaces of buildings such as walls, ceilings, windows, etc. using appropriate supplies and equipment.
Empties waste receptacles and disposes of waste.
Dusts and polishes furniture.
Based on assignment, you may be responsible for the following:
Operate freight elevators to pick up and deliver clothing, laundry, equipment, etc.
Maintain grounds around buildings by cutting grass, raking leaves, weeding and thinning flower beds or gardens, etc.
Perform outside duties such as washing windows; sweeping walks; shoveling snow; picking up trash; preparing grounds by putting in gravel, dumping and smoothing hot top, etc.
Perform related duties such as loading or unloading equipment and supplies from vehicles; moving furniture; setting up furniture such as beds, desks and cabinets.
Provide on-the-job training and orientation to employees.
Inspect assigned areas for cleanliness, adherence to safety standards
Maintain records or logs on assigned unit activities.
Operate an electrically-powered combination scrubber and vacuum floor machine.
Qualifications
1 year of experience required in related work.
