Job Description

Summary

This job involves managing and securing computer systems, especially Linux-based servers and workstations, for a military weather center in Hawaii.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN/INFOSEC) in the INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT of JOINT TYPHOON WARCEN PEARL HARBOR HI.

To qualify for a GS-11, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience serving as a system administrator for Red Hat Enterprise Linux workstations and servers.

Experience installing software on Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers and workstations.

Experience applying DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems Experience planning, scheduling and participating in the installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems and applications software.

Experience managing user and administrator accounts, network permissions, and access to systems and equipment. Experience resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability problems.

Experience managing the installation and integration of systems fixes, updates, and enhancements including Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM), Computer Network Directives (CND), and additional authoritative guidance.

Experience in learning and utilizing information technology (IT) concepts, principles, methods, and practices.

Experience in administering systems such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 or greater, VMware vSphere 7.0 or greater, and Junos OS. AND 1.

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Developing, documenting, reviewing, and updating policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Development and delivery of training to junior civilian and military information technology professionals.

  • You will serve as the focal point for the administration and operation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux workstations and servers, to include correcting security vulnerabilities in response to problems identified in vulnerability scan reports.
  • You will plan, schedule, and participate in the installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems, and applications software supporting Joint Typhoon Warning Center operations and administration.
  • You will serve as Information System Security Officer (ISSO) and will assist the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) in preparing authorization packages, monitoring system security, managing vulnerability scans, and responding to incidents.
  • You will manage system resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability, and hardware and software configuration.
  • You will develop and document systems administration standard operating procedures.
  • You will ensure the rigorous application of information security/ information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of systems administration services.
