The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a systems administrator/database administrator with responsibility for managing the Korea Air Simulation Center's systems and databases including the planning, analysis, acquisition, design, quality assurance, security, configuration, installation, maintenance testing, operational integrity and/or management of systems.
In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Information Technology (IT) Management Series, GS-2210 (Alternate A).
https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/2200/information-technology-it-management-series-2210-alternative-a/ EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes: Application of principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems while optimizing performance.
Experience in IT applications software, database concepts, virtualization, and cloud technologies; Linux system administration (preferably Red Hat Enterprise), Oracle Database Administration, SQL, Linux scripting, system and database monitoring, and multi-server troubleshooting.
Proficient with performance-tuning tools, database management, and project management methods to enhance system performance, resolve database issues, and support a wide range of systems administration tasks.
Utilization of emerging technologies to implement corrective or preventive actions that ensure optimal system performance.
Capable of performing backup, recovery, and maintenance in both offline and real-time environments, including server configuration backups, performance monitoring, problem documentation, and field-level issue resolution.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.
Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems, and optimize system performance.
Knowledge of IT applications software and database concepts, principles, methods, and practices. Knowledge of virtualization and cloud based technologies.
Knowledge of Linux (preferably Red Hat Enterprise) system administration, Oracle Database Administration, SQL, Linux scripting language, system/database monitoring, and multi-server troubleshooting. 2.
Knowledge of performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot database performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions.
Knowledge of the latest advancements in technology to initiate corrective or preventative action to ensure optimum performance of the system.
Ability to perform backup, recovery and maintenance off-line and real-time which includes backing up data server configuration; database and applications server performance monitoring, problem documentation, and field-level resolution.
3. Ability to administer large, multi-server application systems utilizing X Windows (xterm) workstation clients and relational database systems.
Ability to apply methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problems, provide support that minimizes interruptions in service to customers, and maintain liaison with industry and other activities to provide awareness of state-of-the-art technology.

Knowledge of integrating Linux OS with Microsoft Windows OS in a coexistent environment, which includes supporting associated devices, and the interoperability of systems sufficient to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and performance of systems; and to ensure the availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of servers.
5. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing. 6.
Knowledge of DoD and Air Force guidelines for system administration, Information Assurance policies, and risk/vulnerability management for Linux OS.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:
Performs services as a senior systems administrator. Provides technical guidance and instruction to users and other IT specialists.
Serves as a senior technical advisor to management and Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM).
Maintains liaison with manufacturers, professional organizations, and counterparts at other installations and services regarding available products and state-of-the-art technologies and advancements.
