Full Job Description

The USDOT Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) seeks an IT Specialist to serve as a principal contributor/project manager in information systems security and information technology infrastructure analysis, design, integration, and maintenance.

The individual must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of professionals inside and outside of TSI.

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience requirements.

To qualify for the Grade 13, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-12, it must include: Experience managing information technology functions to maintain information systems, implement software, troubleshoot, and ensure application of information security policies.

Experience in assessing cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities within an organization's systems to help identify and mitigate threats, assess incidents, and help analyze and facilitate business processes for gaps and opportunities for improvement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Major Duties:

The IT Specialist: Serves as Program Manager for IT systems and infrastructure and develops the preliminary IT annual budget.

Provides coordination across established ADP functional lines and interfaces with the customers to assure conformity and consistency across functional areas.

Analyzes subject matter processes or problems and performs fact-finding to establish the feasibility of new or modified computer applications.

Maintains system security and integrity, establishes and implements access rights and privileges and oversees the implementation of hardware and software systems.

Serves as TSI's liaison to the OST Information System Security Officer (ISSO) and is responsible for all matters involving system security and cybersecurity.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a strong work ethic and ability to prioritize deliverables from multiple team members and follow through in a timely manner, excellent communication and customer service skills in a diverse workplace and skill in maintaining cooperative relations and communications with management and staff while maintaining a high standard of professionalism.
