Job Description

Summary

This job involves analyzing cyber threats, implementing security measures, and evaluating technologies to protect Department of Defense computer networks from attacks.

It supports the US Cyber Command's mission in a high-stakes environment at Fort Meade.

Full Job Description

This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service.

It has been identified as a position necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command.

It is in the Professional Work Category at the Senior Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure. It is located in the DISA - DCDC Force Assessment Division.

Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating the following competencies appropriate to, or above, the level of this position.

For vacancies below the full-performance level of the position, the basic requirement will be evaluated on a developmental basis.

Basic Requirements: Attention to Detail - experience reviewing my own information technology-related work or data and have been responsible for reviewing the work of others to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency with standards Customer Service - developing and maintaining relationships with customers, anticipating and assessing the current and future information technology needs of customers, and developing or identifying information technology products or services that are tailored to meet customer needs Oral Communication - briefing senior-level management and IT staff on the status of information technology systems, projects, or daily operations, including the communication of complex technical information to a non-technical audience Problem Solving - identifying alternatives to address unique, highly complex, or sensitive information technology-related issues.

I have anticipated information technology-related problems and have identified and evaluated potential sources of information to generate alternative solutions Qualifying Experience: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must possess qualifying experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position.

Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service.

For this position, qualifying experience is defined as: Experience analyzing cyber defense events for the purposes of mitigating threats using applicable cyber defense tools (e.g., IDS alerts, firewalls, network traffic logs).

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.

  • Conducts advanced analysis and production tasks related to cybersecurity and information systems.
  • Implements, maintains, and evaluates cybersecurity protocols and technologies across Department of Defense Information Network (DODIN) systems.
  • Utilizes modern cybersecurity frameworks and tools to assess system vulnerabilities and enforce compliance with DOD cybersecurity directives.
  • Conducts technical evaluations of DOD and commercial software and hardware solutions.
  • Applies emerging technologies, threat intelligence, and innovative methodologies to address challenges beyond standard guidelines.
  • Supports acquisition programs involving federal IT and National Security Systems, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity laws and policies throughout the acquisition lifecycle.
