Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the Department of Defense (DoD) in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information.

In addition to the Basic Competency Requirements listed above, one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-12 in the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as Providing expert level experience in support of all cybersecurity assessment activities to include: comprehensive understanding of the assessment and authorization process and the ability to independently assess and validate the security of information systems, expert knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (i.e.

RMF, CSF, ISO 27001), risk analysis, IT technical expertise, and leadership and communication.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

  • Conducts independent, comprehensive assessments of management, operational, and technical security controls to determine their effectiveness.
  • Verifies that the security posture of applications, networks, and systems is implemented as stated in documentation, identifies deviations, and recommends corrective actions.
  • Performs detailed risk analysis, considering threats, vulnerabilities, and the probability of occurrence, especially when a system undergoes a major change.
  • Monitors systems to evaluate their compliance with IT security, resilience, and dependability requirements, and ensures configuration guidelines are followed.
