***This job opportunity is not in the classified service and is not covered by the West Virginia Division of Personnel merit system***The Legal Division of the WV Offices of the Insurance Commissioner provides legal counsel to the agency and staff, drafts and promulgates statutes, investigates code/rule violations, responds to litigation, hearings, and coordinates receivership activities.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing the following duties:

  • Under general supervision, the selected candidate will obtain evidence of reported fraud, civil regulatory violations and/or other violations of the rules and regulations of a state agency or of state and/or federal laws or involving claims for damages, fines, or penalties by a state agency.
  • Involves direct public contact work as well as contact with insurance company representatives and lawyers.
  • Performs related investigative work as required.
  • Works in a team environment with all divisions of state agencies and/or outside agencies or organizations.
  • Makes recommendations for suggested regulatory compliance actions and/or hearing requests.
  • Public discourse requires professional attitude and adherence to all DOP and OIC personnel policies at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.





Qualifications

Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

OR

Substitution: Additional experience as described below may substitute for the required training at the rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.

AND

Experience: One (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in law enforcement or investigative work or in determining eligibility for credit, insurance or government programs.


For Lottery only:

Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid investigative, law enforcement, surveillance, accounting/auditing, and/or business operations, lottery operations, and/or casino operations, or gaming operations experience.

Preference may be shown to applicants with investigative experience in casino or gaming operations.


Special Requirements: Possession of a valid driver's license and the availability of an automobile is required. Qualification to possess and use firearms may be required.

Additional Information

PG: 14 $39,461 - $68,582

Market Rate: $61,044
