Job Description

Summary

This job involves planning and carrying out detailed investigations into criminal cases or civil disputes for the U.S.

Attorney's Office, including analyzing evidence, reconstructing events, and preparing reports to support prosecutions.

You'll work closely with lawyers and other agencies to gather and verify facts from documents, witnesses, and records.

It's a great fit for someone with experience in legal or financial investigations who enjoys piecing together complex puzzles to help build strong cases.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at GS-11 level or equivalent, including at least three of: planning investigative analysis of legal cases, conducting financial examinations, assisting with investigation documentation for litigation, and preparing investigation progress reports

  • Experience correlating intelligence, conducting research to reconstruct events, and developing case profiles

Full Job Description

The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York's mission is to investigate, prosecute and deter violations of federal statutes, enforce and represent the interests of the United States in civil litigation, uphold civil, constitutional and victims' rights, and foster partnerships with other federal, state and local government agencies and community groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level in which you are applying: To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must possess: Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) (3) of the (4) duties listed below: Planning and conducting investigative analysis of legal cases/matters; Conducting financial examinations/investigations; Assisting with the documentation of investigation related services for litigation; Preparing reports on the progress of investigations.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.

One year at the GS-11 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. You must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade.

No award SF-50 will be accepted; recommended SF-50s include promotions and step increases (within grade increases). Major Duties:

This Investigative Specialist independently plans and conducts complex investigations and/or financial examinations relating to either criminal violations or civil actions within the jurisdiction of the United States Attorney's Office and to participate in such investigative activities with Federal, State, and local officials.

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Investigative Specialist support in the Criminal Division, U.S.

Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York, located in Brooklyn, New York, focusing in the areas of investigative analysis of complex and multifaceted cases and legal matters of concern to the USAO..

Typical work assignments will include: Serving as a strategic analyst, responsible for correlating intelligence information and contextual data of cases.

Conducting independent research to reconstruct events, establish possible criminal associations, detect trends and develop case-specific subject profiles.

Establishing and/or verifying relationships among all facts and evidence obtained or presented to confirm authenticity of documents, corroborate witness statements and otherwise build proof necessary for successful litigation.

Conducting extensive searches of files, records, financial and billing documents, and regulatory processes to find or obtain appropriate evidence for prosecution.

Working with the assigned AUSA or supervisory attorneys to determine applicable criminal and administrative statutory and regulatory law and identify possible violations or causes of action.

Arranging for the secure storage, preservation, organization and indexing of voluminous documentary evidence.
