Summary

This job involves leading engineering work on cranes used on Navy ships and aircraft carriers, focusing on improving their design, reliability, and integration with other ship systems.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Shipboard Cranes Technical Specialist and Lead Systems Engineer in the Propulsion, Power, Auxiliary, Machinery Systems Department, Hull & Deck Machinery Systems Division of NSWC PHILA DIV.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer managing in-service engineering, design, development, test and evaluation of shipboard crane systems and related system/ship interfaces.

Examples of qualifying experience may include: Experience with development and/or application of shipboard cranes (or similar weight handling equipment) technical specifications and standards; Knowledge of shipboard cranes (or similar weight handling equipment) design, operation, and maintenance; Skill in risk assessment; Experience with technical project management.

  • You will research, develop and integrate solutions and/or technologies to improve the reliability, maintainability, or capability of crane systems on U.S. Navy Ships and Aircraft Carriers.
  • You will conduct root cause analysis, proposal development, design development, test, evaluation and ship integration with technical rigor through understanding and compliance with the command Systems Engineering Process.
  • You will serve as an authoritative expert/project leader in planning, formulating, organizing and directing extensive and multi-faceted technical activities to meet the Navy’s requirements for programs.
  • You will provide technical expertise in systems design, operation and maintenance to review, assess, and recommend approval or acceptance of shipboard cranes for all new acquisition and in-service ships.
