Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an engineer or chemist to provide expert advice on designing, developing, and maintaining advanced weapon systems, particularly those related to reentry vehicles for national defense.

The role requires leading teams, managing projects and budgets, and coordinating with various government and industry partners to ensure successful experiments and missions.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 or NH-02 in engineering or chemistry, focusing on weapon systems design, development, and sustainment
  • Professional background in engineering (0800 series), physics (1310 series), chemistry (1320 series), or mathematics/statistics (1501 series)
  • Ability to formulate requirements, planning, and budgetary support for reentry systems experiments
  • Skills in drafting and managing technical and programmatic contracts for defense projects
  • Experience leading and coordinating diverse teams including civilians, military, contractors, and other agencies
  • Proficiency in coordinating across units, resolving issues independently, and conducting progress reviews
  • Knowledge accumulation and evaluation in reentry systems science and technologies

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer or chemist providing technical advice in the design, development and the development/evaluation of complex weapon systems for sustainment of reentry weapon systems.

  • You will formulate and execute requirements definition, planning factors, and budgetary planning necessary to support the reentry systems experiments portfolio.
  • You will draft and manage the technical and programmatic scope of relevant contractual vehicles in support of the reentry systems experiments portfolio.
  • You will lead the management and coordination of a diverse staff of federal civilian, military, industry/contractor, and other government agency efforts to deliver mission success.
  • You will closely coordinate with the staff of other sections and units within the Reentry Systems Branch to ensure delivery of excellence across the technical and programmatic spectrum.
  • You will take the initiative to independently highlight and resolve issues affecting their equities; directs and participates in reviews of progress.
  • You will support both their own and their unit's evaluation and accumulation of knowledge related to reentry systems related science and technologies
