Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an expert in hydrography and bathymetry for the U.S. Navy, focusing on collecting, processing, and sharing ocean floor mapping data to support naval operations.

You'll review others' work, solve technical issues, and create reports on scientific findings.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Physical Scientist/Geophysicist/ Oceanographer in the Hydrographic Department of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

(For GS-12) In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Resume must demonstrate the following specialized experience: Experience applying Physical Science Concepts, Principles and Practices with a focus in hydrography/bathymetry or related field and extensive survey experience.

Experience performing data discovery of geospatial information, and the knowledge to combine these data into final product.

Experience conveying information to individuals both in written and oral form.

  • You will serve as a subject matter expert in the fields of hydrography and bathymetry, supporting data collection, data processing, quality control, data archival, product generation, and/or product dissemination.
  • You will review the work of peers and junior grade employees for technical soundness and conformance to accepted standards.
  • You will make decisions on work problems presented by employees and collaborates with Branch Heads to coordinate work related changes.
  • You will advise Branch Head on problems involving the relationship of the work of the Branch to broader programs and its impact on such programs.
  • You will prepare publishable scientific reports whenever findings are of significant interest to the Navy or scientific community.
