Base salary range: $147,649 - $221,900

This job involves maintaining, repairing, and calibrating complex instruments and equipment used in naval aircraft, such as navigation systems and flight controls, to ensure they work reliably for pilots.
It's a hands-on role in a military aviation center in California, where you'll troubleshoot issues and work independently on technical tasks.
A good fit would be someone with strong mechanical and electronics skills, experience in aviation or precision instruments, and a reliable, expert-level approach to problem-solving.
You will serve as an Instrument Mechanic in the Production Department, Avionics Division of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: RELIABILITY AND DEPENDABILITY I have the ability to independently perform the most difficult and complex tasks including: 1) Perform maintenance and repair on airborne electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical instruments and related equipment with a minimum of guidance; 2) Troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify, test, calibrate, and install major items and equipment consisting of electro-mechanical computers, control assemblies, inertial guidance systems, directional gyros, rate gyros, vertical gyros, accelerometers, autopilot navigational computers, air data computers, attitude indicating systems, fuel indicating systems, and torque systems; 3) Overhaul, repair, modify, and calibrate unusually complex instruments and equipment including the components and complete systems designed to assist the pilot in the maintenance of flight attitude and navigation; 4) I have a comprehensive trade knowledge of the operating principles related to such equipment and be familiar with the functional relationships and the impact of repairs on all the related devices.
