Job Description

Summary

This job is for the top leader of a minimum-security prison in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, where you'll manage daily operations, staff hiring and training, and ensure a safe environment for inmates.

You'll also create policies and work with community partners to keep things running smoothly.

It's ideal for someone with strong leadership experience in corrections or similar fields who can handle personnel issues and build relationships.

Key Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Equivalent of five years full-time management experience in correctional, mental health, intellectual disability, juvenile correctional, or training facilities
  • Ability to manage personnel activities including recruitment, training, and discipline
  • Skills in developing comprehensive policies for safe and humane operations
  • Experience maintaining collaborative relations with internal and external stakeholders
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience allowed, with substitutions up to four years of experience for education or two years of graduate coursework for experience

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Department of Corrections. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

As the Executive Leader and Warden of Mount Pleasant, this position oversees the operations of a minimum security correctional program. The role serves as the appointing authority for the institution, managing all personnel activities including recruitment, training, and disciplinary matters. Additionally, the Warden ensures a safe and humane environment by developing comprehensive policies and maintaining collaborative relations with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university and the equivalent of five years of full-time management experience in a correctional, mental health, intellectual disability or juvenile correctional or training facility;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the equivalent of one year of the above type full-time work experience for each year of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the equivalent of one year (twenty-four semester or equivalent hours) of graduate level course work in penology, the social/behavioral sciences, business administration or public administration, for each year of the required full-time experience to a maximum substitution of two years.
