Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping users with computer problems, setting up and fixing hardware and software, and managing IT equipment in a military department setting.

It's a hands-on support role where you'll troubleshoot issues, train people on tech, and keep track of inventory.

A good fit would be someone with a couple years of IT helpdesk experience who likes working with people and can handle a security check, especially if they know military systems.

Full Job Description

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has three major operational divisions: Colorado National Guard (Army and Air), Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. These divisions utilize state and federal resources to provide our communities, State and nation with a ready military force for national defense and State emergency response as well as serving our Colorado Veterans.

Requirements

This position is a part of our Army Military Division and provides end-user technical support services to include installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance and/or training in response to customer needs. This position will manage phases of the IT/Communications environment to include the planning, coordinating, analysis of system design, and installing, upgrading, and recommending hardware and software upgrades. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
  • providing support and guidance to users on installing, operating personal computers, peripheral equipment, and associated software while coordinating support actions with user, other IT personnel, and higher levels if needed;
  • performing custom installation and maintenance of hardware and software, investigating and resolving problems arising in user operation of equipment/software/systems;
  • identifying significant trends in hardware/software implementation and potential problems;
  • coordinating external vendor support for warranty repairs and escorting vendors while work is performed on site;
  • installing, testing, and preparing performance reports and recommendations on a variety of equipment such as microcomputers, printers, and scanners;
  • working with users to test and evaluate a variety of software packages as well as researching resolution of hardware and software problems identified by users;
  • updating hardware and software achitecture databases to reflect installations, turn-ins, and changes in reportable software; and
  • working directly with Property Book Officers and Supply Sergeants to ensure all assigned and transitional property is accounted by performing cyclical inventories as required.

Experience Only:
  • Two (2) years of experience working with software/hardware and networks in a service-desk oriented capacity.

  • Must be able to pass a security clearance.

OR

Education and Experience:

  • A combination of Information Technology-related education, formalized apprenticeship program, certification, and/or relevant experience as stated in the experience section above equal to two (2) years.

  • Must be able to pass a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who are familiar with military operating systems.
Preference will be given to candidates who have a security clearance.
