Job Description

Summary

This job involves maintaining, repairing, and installing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems at a military airbase in Pennsylvania to keep the facilities comfortable and safe.

You'll handle routine checks, fix problems, and work independently on a full-time schedule from 7 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday.

Requirements

As a HVAC Refrigeration Technician, you will you will be responsible for the maintenance, adjustment, monitoring, and operation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and related equipment at Middletown Airbase.

You will perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all HVAC units and assist in the installation of liquid petroleum and natural gas related equipment.

You will also install new units and component parts, make adjustments, and repair various types of HVAC systems.

This role requires independent thinking, self-direction, and timely completion of assignments to ensure the comfort and safety of the base.

In addition, you will troubleshoot complex equipment malfunctions, perform diagnostics, test equipment functionality, maintain records of work performed and materials utilized.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the HVAC and Building Automation Technician trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems, units, and equipment including one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.

  • You must obtain EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification from an approved provider within 6 months of employment.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must pass a favorable National Crime Information Center (NCIC) screening and possess one of the following for admittance to the Middletown Air Base: valid REAL ID-compliant driver’s license; other REAL ID-compliant identification cards; alternative acceptable document such as a passport; or military/CAC/retirees’ ID card.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willingness and ability to work in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania
  • Possession of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Certification
  • Possession of an Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and/or wiring diagrams/schematics
  • Experience making adjustments and repairs to the heating systems (steam, hot water, and gas) and refrigeration and freezer units (reach-in and walk-in)
  • Experience installing refrigeration or HVAC systems, units, equipment, and peripheral devices
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on all related equipment
  • Experience responding to emergencies by going onsite and troubleshooting problems
  • Experience making adjustments online or in-person if necessary to maintain comfortable conditions
  • Experience conducting building inspections to ensure adequate heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, and circulation in buildings
