The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor (Foreman) position is located at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System's (VAPHS) Environmental Management Service (EMS).
The purpose of the work is to engage in activities related to the management and/or administration of facilities, and plans, coordinates, and supervises hospital housekeeping functions such as environmental sanitation, laundry/linen operations, interior/exterior pest control, patient assistance program, waste management, and bed services program.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/06/2026.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.
The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work is primarily sedentary, although some physical effort may be required, e.g.
walking, standing, carrying light items such as manuals or briefcases, or driving or traveling by motor vehicles.
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, training rooms, and libraries.
The work also involves spending time in storage areas, patient care areas and waste storage and handling areas. Major Duties:
The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor (Foreman) duties include but are not limited to: Determines the approach to be taken and the methods to be used, resolving most of the conflicts that arise, coordinating the work with others as necessary and interpreting policy in terms of established objectives.
Ensures the accomplishment of activities, by directly supervising Housekeeping Aide Supervisors, Housekeeping Aide Work Leaders and CWT/IT training program.
Plans for and directs the provision of housekeeping services for the hospital facility in association with the Chief and/or Assistant Chief, EMS and Supervisory Environmental Care Specialist.
Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
Identifies developmental and training needs of employees, providing for and arranging for needed development and training.
Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff, which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system.
Promotes and administers a variety of management programs for the EMS, such as those related to safety, cost reduction, sanitation, and housekeeping.
Determines long-range, intermediate, and short-range program goals and policies.
