This job is for a crew foreman who leads a team of workers in repairing and maintaining roads, sidewalks, drainage systems, and related infrastructure across a county.
It involves supervising daily tasks, handling emergencies like snow removal, managing reports and employee performance, and ensuring safety protocols are followed.
A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in construction or maintenance, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work outdoors in tough conditions.
Supervises a crew of skilled and semi-skilled Highway Maintenance Workers performing activities in the maintenance of county wide roads and right of ways.
Types of repairs to include, but not limited to, sidewalks, curb and gutters, catch basins and installing drive ways.
Supervises county-wide drainage projects requiring a backhoe and/or an excavator for drainage or routine concrete repairs.
Assists other crews with projects as deemed necessary by the Resident Maintenance Engineer.
Maintains weekly and monthly reports, and time sheets; recommends personnel actions including promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures; rates employees yearly according to the Employee Performance Management System.
Maintains all paperwork and reports (HMMS) that are essential to the department. Responsible for working as On-Call Foreman as needed during the year.
Supervises traffic control and ensures that it is in accordance with the SC Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Supervises the flagger operations.
Supervises and coordinates crew in after hour emergencies and the removal of snow and ice during inclement weather. May be required to work 12-hour shift. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Three and one-half (3.5) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
