This entry-level job involves hands-on maintenance of highways, such as clearing ditches, repairing roads, and operating small equipment like dump trucks to haul materials.
Workers also handle traffic control during repairs and assist with snow removal or debris cleanup in bad weather.
It's a good fit for physically fit individuals who enjoy outdoor work, have a valid driver's license, and are willing to get a commercial driver's license soon after starting.
Works with maintenance crew on shoulders and ditches; cleans pipe, pipe ends; removes and replaces mailboxes, posts and highway signs.
Operates standard dump truck hauling materials that consist of asphalt, sand clay, limestone and various maintenance materials for work performed along right of way and surface repairs.
Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic, protect workers, equipment and general public.
Operates chain saw and various hand tools in the clearing of right of way along ditches and highways. Assists in the removal of snow/ice and debris during inclement weather.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
