The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Rest Area Attendant (Part-Time) to support the upkeep and operation of assigned rest areas and related facilities.
In this role, you will perform semi-skilled maintenance, repairs, and janitorial duties in rest areas, transportation shops, sheds, and other associated facilities.
You will also assist the traveling public and help ensure a positive experience for all visitors. This position plays a key role in maintaining safe, clean, and functional restroom facilities.

Typical part-time schedule is Sunday – Wednesday, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm, or Wednesday – Saturday, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm; however, days and hours may vary.
Work is performed 7 days a week, 365 days per year, including holidays. Works alternate and emergency shifts as situations dictate. Occasional call-back may be required.
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Rest Area Attendant will:
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
Safety Awareness & Compliance: Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures and commitment to following safety policies, including confined space entry, fall protection, and hazardous material handling.
Ability to participate in the creation and implementation of Pre-Activity Safety Plans (PASP) and attend regular safety training.
Ability to interpret Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for the proper mixing and handling of chemicals.

Important Notes
Work is performed primarily outdoors and within rest area facilities, including occasional confined spaces.
Duties may be completed at ground level or above shoulder height and involve the use of hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment, and electronic devices.
Employees work in all weather conditions and may be exposed to hot or icy surfaces, animals, and materials such as cleaning chemicals, fuels, oils, and solvents.
The role may also involve exposure to waste and other debris commonly found in public facilities.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
