Job Description

Summary

This job involves training and evaluating pilots on flying UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters, using both actual aircraft and simulators, while also teaching classroom lessons on flying techniques and aircraft systems.

It's based at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and suits experienced helicopter pilots who enjoy instructing others and have a strong background in military or aviation training.

Ideal candidates are detail-oriented instructors with proven flight hours and certification in piloting and teaching.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 level in federal service, including instructing UH-60 pilots

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Operates UH-60 rotary wing aircraft and associated flight simulator(s) as an instructor pilot located in Rucker, Alabama.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service that includes minimum eligibility requirements for positions in this occupation based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings.

Meeting the applicable flight hour requirements and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the position which includes instructing/evaluating rated and non-rated pilots in flight procedures in the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter in tasks such as primary, basic and advanced instrument, combat skills (tactics and terrain techniques) and conducting classroom instruction on training maneuvers and techniques, aircraft systems, and night vision systems.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

CERTIFICATIONS: This position requires you possess the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Pilot Certificates, FAA Flight Instructor Certificate and/or appropriate military rating.

MINIMUM FLIGHT HOURS REQUIREMENT: Total Flight Hours- 1500 Pilot in Command - 250 Night Flying - 75 Flying Time in the Last 12 Months - 100 (may be waived) Instructor Hours - 500 Instrument Hours - 75 Actual Weather- 10 FLIGHT HOURS MUST BE DOCUMENTED ON THE RESUME IN THE ABOVE FORMAT.

(Must attach a copy of official flight records such as DA-759, DA-759-1, DA Form 2408-12 or equivalent) In-service placement for current Federal Employees flight hour requirements may be subject to waiver based on OPM Qualification Standards which may be accessed at: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/Standards/IORs/gs2100/2181.htm Major Duties:

  • Plans and conducts flight training while evaluating graduate and undergraduate aviators on pre-flight through post-flight tasks and maneuvers.
  • Review and evaluation of work is based on visits to ground classes, pre-flight and post-flight debriefs, observation of flight techniques, student end of course critiques, and reports from checks and standardization flights.
  • Perform Proficiency Flight Evaluations (PFEs) to re-establish currency, Instrument Evaluations, post mishap evaluations, mentorship flights, Resident Instructor Training (RIT), and medical flight evaluations IAW applicable regulations/SOPs.
  • Instructs and evaluates academic topics in accordance with TC 3-04.11 or current, equivalent publication(s), the aircrew catalogue of academic topics (ACAT), current Army and Aviation doctrine.
  • Performs administrative tasks such as maintaining files and records, completing and maintaining grade slips and folders on students.
