Full Job Description

You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the EXPEDITIONARY MAINTENANCE CENTER (EMC) of NAVAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING AND EXPEDITIONARY WARFARE CENTER.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Troubleshooting and evaluating CESE and/or CEEI equipment systems; 2) Disassembling, reassembling and conducting inspections, repairs and replacements of diesel and gasoline engines; 3) Performing maintenance services independently and in teams; 4) Identifying overall mechanical condition of vehicles/equipment and correction of deficiencies required (repair hydraulic, lifting, loading, turning and positioning systems including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic controls).

  • You will independently accomplish various repairs, from minor tune-ups to complete frame up overhauls on all types of equipment.
  • You will diagnose, troubleshoot, remove, adjust, modify, repair or replace defective components in such sub-systems as ignition, emission, electronic and computer-controlled systems.
  • You will repair, overhaul, and rebuild attachments and other utility systems on such equipment as bulldozers, road graders, rollers, power shovels, backhoes, stationary generators, patrol boats, and more.
  • You will repair clutches, transmission systems, differentials, final drives, generators, governors, reduction gears, hydraulic systems, hydraulic and pneumatic braking systems.
  • You will install and align internal combustion engines, hoisting machinery and related equipment.
  • You will use electrical-mechanical systems and interrelated components such as control modules, switches, actuators, sensors and wiring.
