Full Job Description

You will serve as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader in the Production Division of the Public Works Department of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to Lead or Supervise; I have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including: 1)Determining the cause of malfunctions and makes repairs to a variety of heavy mobile equipment and vehicles; 2)Completing major repairs, overhauls, and modifications independently; 3)Conducting functional and performance tests on completed work; and 4)Measuring, fitting and installing components, such as pistons, valves, bearings, gears.

MUST POSSESS A VALID COMMERICAL LICENSE (CDL) MUST POSSESS A VALID CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT OPERATORS LICENSE MUST POSSESS A CRANE OPERATORS LICENSE MUST POSSESS A MATERIAL HANDLING EQUIPMENT LICENSE Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.

  • You will initiate work by assigning specific assignments to workers and demonstrate proper work methods.
  • You will perform the full range of trouble shooting and repair functions required to return equipment to operational status.
  • You will perform scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment to restore to a serviceable condition.
  • You will operate one or more types of heavy equipment to excavate, backfill, grade, break and remove pavement.
  • You will operate a truck tractor over 26,0000 lbs. to provide capability to pull semi-trailers of various types.
  • You will be required to perform various rigging operations for the weight handling equipment program.
