Summary

This job involves repairing and maintaining heavy vehicles and equipment used by the Air National Guard, such as fuel trucks, firefighting vehicles, forklifts, and construction machinery, including troubleshooting engines, electrical systems, and hydraulics.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience fixing large diesel or gasoline-powered machines, who can work independently and diagnose problems quickly in a military setting.

It's a permanent role for those comfortable with both commercial and tactical equipment.

Key Requirements

  • At least 18 months of experience in diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying heavy mobile equipment like combat vehicles, trucks, and construction machinery
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems, including diesel, multi-fuel, or gasoline engines, transmissions, and drive lines
  • Understanding of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and fuel systems and their interactions

Full Job Description

This HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC position, is located in the Air National Guard, Logistics Readiness Squadron, Vehicle Management Flight and is part of the CA 146 AW.

General Experience: Possess experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to make repairs or the ability to assist with repairs that can be accomplished by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts.

HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC, WG-5803-10: Must have at least 18 months experience or training leading to a thorough knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationships of complex systems, assemblies, and parts for a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment; Ability to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment; Knowledge of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and other non-mechanical systems that have a functional relationship and effect on the operation of mechanical systems; Knowledge of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls.

Basic knowledge of electronics, sufficient to identify and replace defective components, such as sensors, diodes, and circuit boards; Ability to repair or overhaul major components such as diesel, multi-fuel or gasoline engines, turbine engines, automatic and manual transmissions, drive line assemblies, electrical and electronic systems and accessories, fuel injection systems, and emission control systems.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.

Teaching Others Vehicle Maintenance Major Duties:

THIS IS A T32 EXCEPTED SERVICE, PERMANENT POSITION.

The primary purpose of the HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC, WG-5803-10, is to maintain, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, modify, and inspect heavy mobile equipment, various support equipment, and special purpose vehicles such as; fuel dispensing trucks, refueling equipment, crash/structural firefighting equipment and pump trucks, forklifts, materiel handling, aircraft cargo loaders, aircraft and equipment tow tractors, large runway snow removal vehicles, aircraft de-icing equipment, sweepers, bulldozers, mobile cranes, road graders, heavy construction and earth moving vehicles, backhoes, front end loaders, excavators, trenchers, and tactical/armored protected vehicles.

The equipment may be commercial or military designed with diesel, gasoline, electric, hybrid electric, or other alternative fuel power and may have multiple engines.

The work requires knowledge of how heavy duty machinery, engines, parts, and systems work; ability to detect faulty items, determine causes of malfunction, and determine best repair methods; and skill to assemble, disassemble, repair, rebuild or modify components and a variety of interconnected systems.

Repairs include; integrated electrical, electronics, air, fuel, and hydraulic systems; complex state-of-the-art electrical and electronic systems requiring specialized scan/diagnostic equipment to identify malfunctions or to determine replacement of standard and computer controlled components.
