Job Description

Summary

This job involves fixing and maintaining heavy vehicles and equipment like trucks with gasoline and diesel engines, including diagnosing issues, ordering parts, and performing routine check-ups to keep the city's fleet running smoothly.

It requires working the second shift in a hands-on environment, documenting repairs, and keeping the workspace clean.

A good fit would be someone with practical experience in mechanical repairs who enjoys problem-solving and doesn't mind evening hours.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent with training in automotive, heavy equipment, or engine repairs
  • At least two years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of automotive, heavy equipment, or small engines
  • State certifications in relevant repair fields (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License, Class A with N Endorsement (or ability to obtain within 6-month probationary period)
  • Ability to diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment
  • Skills in ordering parts, documenting repairs electronically, and maintaining a clean work environment
  • Availability for 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 12:00 AM, four 10-hour days (Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday)

Full Job Description

The purpose of this job is to perform preventive maintenance, inspection and repairs to heavy equipment with a variety of gasoline and diesel engines. Responsible for preparing work orders and the requisition of parts and equipment for repair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Diagnoses and repairs trucks and equipment
  • Performs all necessary repairs to maintain the fleet
  • Orders the correct parts to repair units
  • Documents equipment or truck repairs and repaired times electronically
  • Provides preventative maintenance services of all heavy equipment
  • Looks up and requests parts as needed
  • Keeps and maintains a clean work environment
  • Performs related work as required
Please Note:
This position is 2nd Shift.
Hours: 2:00 pm to 12:00 AM,
Days: Four, 10 hour work days. A schedule of Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday will be assiged.



Requirements

Required Education and Experience
