State Equipment Fleet is looking for a Heavy Duty Mechanic - Rural ARFF - Advanced Journey to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing
Professionally maintain all heavy equipment associated with the construction and maintenance of highways, secondary roads and rural airports including, but not limited to motor graders, loaders, dump trucks, roller compactors, sand spreaders, backhoes, and tractor-trailer combinations.

This is an advanced journey level mechanic position required to diagnose, repair and maintain a wide variety of heavy trucks and equipment for the State Fleet.

This includes computerized diagnostics and the ability to repair electronic and mechanical systems.

The incumbent must be able to resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through a variety of techniques and methods.

In a shop or remote setting, the incumbent performs routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment with diverse components and diagnostic requirements.

An example of equipment would be motor graders, loaders, trucks of all types, snow blowers, and sanders, often from different manufacturers and a wide range of model years.

The incumbent is required to have a base working knowledge of the equipment components in order to move or operate the equipment for service and can correctly diagnose problems not specified in applicable programs.

The working environment you can expect
This position is located at 100 Valley Who Road, Dutch Harbor, AK.
Traveling in small planes to maintain equipment in remote locations is possible in this position. Travel consists of day trips and overnight stays.

Who we are looking for
To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Special Notice

• Class "A" commercial driver`s license (CDL) is required to perform the duties of this position.

• Steel toed boots or other approved protection to avoid smashed toes from dropped or fallen objects.

ETT (Emergency Trauma Treatment) training 40-hour course. ARFF training, including a 40-hour course and medical evaluation and fit test for self-contained breathing apparatus.

Training in Managing Wildlife Hazards at Airports (training provided after hire). Must be proficient at operating heavy equipment.

• Knowledge of firearm usage and ammunition handling is required.

• Ability to Perform Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) duties in support of Part 139

Qualifications

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW:

• A copy of your Class A CDL, front and back (if applicable).

COMMERCIAL DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIREDThis position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383), to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety sensitive duties, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.

Hire approval is conditional in that the proposed appointee successfully obtains a Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 120 days of hire and signs an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & PUBLIC FACILITIES DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY
Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required Pre-Employment drug test. According to federal regulations, all violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.

TOOL ALLOWANCE
Employees in this position are required to provide their own hand tools. Employees in this position will be paid a bi-weekly tool allowance of $69.23 as determined by LTC contract. Your manager should review this with you after you are hired.

ARMS & AMMUNITION REQUIREMENT This position requires the use of firearms or ammunition.
