Full Job Description

The Primary Purpose of the Position is: The principle duties and responsibilities of the incumbent are within the Podiatry Department.

The primary duty is to provide patient care, supporting diagnostic and treatment procedures, patient charting and patient education, which do not require a full professional podiatry education or knowledge and skills represented by podiatry licensure.

Support functions include both direct patient care and administrative duties. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/02/2026.

Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.

Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

OR Education and Training For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.

In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirements, you may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: MANAGES AND ORGANIZES INFORMATION - Ensures that all supplies including wound care products are stocked in the rooms as well as maintained, removing all expired products.; MEDICAL INFORMATION - Involvement with wound care management and treatment.; TECHNICAL COMPETENCE - Utilizes instrumentation for small procedures including nail debridement and callus pairing under direct supervision.

; TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION - Proper documentation/logs of procedures.; and SAFETY ENGINEERING - Ensures that clinic areas remain clean and free of any obstruction, or known violations of policies..

OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience.

To qualify based on education for this grade level you must possess a graduate education or an internship which meets the specialized experience required above GS-5.

Major Duties:

Clinical, Clinical Instruction, Orientation, Coordination, Clerical Within the Podiatry Service, the incumbent shall assist in patient flow ensuring exams are completed in a timely manner to strive for a 90% patient access time and waiting times do not exceed unreasonable time limits within Podiatry Service.

In general, the Health Technician shall be assigned the duties of: 1. Obtaining patient histories; 2. Conducting specific observations and examination procedures; 3.

Assist patients with screening forms; 4. Documenting and coding patient encounters; 5. Managing electronic supply orders; 6.

Verifying orders upon arrival to ensure components are present and working correctly; 7. Answering and screening calls from patients regarding podiatry needs; 8.

Responding to routine inquiries from patients, 9.

Perform podiatric instrumentation, under the direct supervision of the podiatrist(s), including routine nail care and the paring of minor callus for patients with palpable pulses; 10.

Proficient in taking foot impressions; 11. Performing glucometer checks; 12. Monitoring of radiological and lab tests; 13. Assist in taking and processing cultures; 14.

Monitoring of patient with foot ulcer(s); Health Technicians (podiatry) at the grade level function as a member of Podiatry care team and assist podiatry staff and other members of the care team in the care of patients/residents receiving outpatient and/or inpatient care.

The Health Technician will be proficient with CPRS and other tracking programs utilized in the Podiatry Department. ensures the technical work assignments of the unit or team are carried out.

The Health Technician maintains knowledge and answers questions about procedure's policies, and directives.

Gives on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with the established procedures and practices in the same capacity.

The Health Technician monitors and reports on the status and progress of work to assigned modality, checking on the work progress and reviewing completed work to see that the provider's instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines, and quality have been met.

The Health Technician follows established procedures using manual or instrument techniques in accordance with established protocols, and reports results to appropriate individuals.

The technician conducts quality control procedures on equipment and products and maintains proper records for quality control reports and workload reporting.

The Health Technician interviews patients and reviews records prior to all procedures to determine presence of allergies or contradictions which might occur.

Incumbent instructs new technicians to administer emergency drugs and emergency resuscitative measures according to clinic and ancillary personnel.

The Health Technician must be skillful in dealing with technicians, medical students, and physician in training at various levels of residency.
