Summary

About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center located at Fort Hood, Texas.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Basic Requirement for Health Technician (Otolaryngology): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing care to patients presenting with ear, nose, or throat injuries/ailments and setting up or operating medical equipment.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Assist physician with complex as well as minor surgical procedures performed in a clinical setting.
  • Sterilize and set up instruments for otolaryngology surgical procedures (general otolaryngology and sub-specialty otolaryngology) using high level disinfection.
  • Remove sutures, staples, and packing from post­operative wounds and remove internal and external nasal splints.
  • Maintain established levels of bulk medical supplies, required surgical instruments, and linens, ordering supplies as needed.
  • Obtain vital signs, annotate changes in patients’ condition, and document health history as well as all necessary information in the clinical information systems.
