About the Position: This position is located within the Naval Branch Health Clinic, Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth VA.

The incumbent serves as a Health Technician (Occupational Health) providing comprehensive occupational health services and patient care to adult workers.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conduct health screenings, update patient medical records, and provide administrative support.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Process physical and stressor based examinations ensuring that employees meet requirements for specific job titles.
  • Provide advice and guidance to supervisors and management officials on current health requirements and concerns.
  • Schedule patients/employees for occupationally related health care, records accompanying health care data in patients' medical records.
  • Conduct individual counseling and teaching regarding patients' conditions.
  • Interview patients to obtain history prior to being seen by physician.
  • Perform various screenings, such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms (EKGs).
