About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center located at Fort Hood, Texas.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Basic Requirement for Health Technician (Chiropractic): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with clerical duties and operating medical equipment.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Medical Assisting or Health Sciences.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Initiate intake of new patients by taking and recording vital signs, assembling a new patient record with all appropriate forms, and assisting patients in completion of questionnaires and other documentation as requested by the treating chiropractor.
  • With direction from the chiropractor, provide treatments/procedures such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, heat, cold, and hydrotherapy, document in the patient record, and report unusual reactions to treatment immediately to the chiropractor.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of hot packs, ice packs, towels, ultrasound gel, proper levels of water in the hydro-collator, table paper, brochures, and other supplies in the treatment rooms and supply room and order supplies as necessary.
  • Request medical records, x-rays, and test results from appropriate clinics and hospital departments, and maintain documentation regarding records requests, records releases, supplies ordered, and new patients scheduled.
  • Coordinate with various vendors to set up training for new equipment and assist in the training process as needed.
  • At the chiropractor’s request, refer patient to other clinics or specialty areas as required.
