About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located in the Department of Surgery Anesthesiology Service at Dwight D.

Eisenhower Army Medical Center (DDEAMC) at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia.

The primary purpose of the position is to provide specialized technical support in the supply, evaluation, ordering, and maintenance of the technical equipment in Anesthesia and Operative Services.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Basic Requirement for Health Technician (Anesthesia): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing intravenous fluids, drawing blood samples; calibrating, and cleaning specialized medical equipment; order, stock and maintain medical equipment; and assisting with techniques and procedures used in preparing and administering anesthetic agents to patients undergoing surgery or other medical procedures.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Nursing, Respiratory therapy, Health Sciences, and Biology.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Assist the anesthesia provider in the operating rooms during anesthesia induction and recovery from anesthesia by anticipating the needs of the anesthesia provider based upon real time changes in hemodynamic function.
  • Observe patient’s vitals and visual assessments for such changes in condition as labored breathing, depression, convulsions, hemorrhage, shock, and anxiety.
  • Remove dirty anesthesia equipment and replaces it with clean equipment in between anesthetic and surgical procedures.
  • Responsible for first-level maintenance on equipment such as oxygen analyzers, arterial pressure lines, electrode wires on EKG machines, and various other equipment that needs batteries.
  • Perform Sterilization and Sanitation Procedures.
  • Responsible for keeping the anesthesia supply and workroom, all operating rooms, and outside of operating rooms are areas neat and clean.
