Job Description

Summary

This job as a Health Technician involves handling both office tasks like scheduling appointments and answering patient questions, as well as clinical duties such as screening patients and preparing them for medical procedures in a military clinic.

About the Position: This position is located at Naval Medical Center, Defense Health Agency, Defense Health Network Pacific Rim, San Diego, CA Directorate of Nursing (Ambulatory Procedure Unit).

This position has both administrative and clinical responsibilities. Administrative responsibilities include coordination of all the clinic's clerical and administrative activities.

Clinical responsibilities relate to screening patients prior to medical appointments.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) answering patient questions regarding general clinic services or appointment concerns; and (2) utilizing automated computer systems to collect, record, and/or maintain patient medical information and history and; (3) scheduling medical appointments for patients.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Major Duties:

  • Answers clinic telephones, greets patients, answers patient's questions about appointment time, health benefits, waiting times, clinic services and other general questions not related to diagnosis or treatment.
  • Prepares and activates the master appointment schedule for the clinic.
  • Routes consultation forms to the appropriate provider or service.
  • Administers topical medications.
  • Operates specialized medical equipment associated with screening clinic patient.
  • Prepares laboratory, radiology requests and other forms as ordered by providers.
