Base salary range: $33,878 - $44,042

This job involves handling and processing medical specimens in a VA hospital lab, ensuring they are properly prepared for testing and shipped when needed.
It requires working with patients, doctors, and lab equipment in a busy environment in New York City.
A good fit would be someone detail-oriented with experience in healthcare support roles who is comfortable multitasking and following strict procedures.
The position is located at VA New York Harbor Healthcare System in Manhattan and/or Brooklyn for the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service.
The purpose of the position is to perform all processing of specimens collected throughout the facility for the purpose of providing acceptable samples for clinical laboratory analysis.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Health Technician position.
To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower level (GS 5) of Federal service.
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include but are not limited to: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.
Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Have you successfully completed one-half year of graduate education or internship that is directly related to the work of this position as a Health Technician?
