The New Mexico VA Healthcare Network is recruiting for a Health Technician within Surgical Service.
The incumbent will perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of clinic operations.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/13/2026. This position has an Individual Occupation Requirement (IOR).
You must meet one of the following: Possess the technician experience that requires application of knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
(This position is part of the series that range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.) In addition to meeting the IOR above, you must meet the experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: receive and prepare patients for examinations; maintain patient records; restock medical supplies; and instruct patients of discharge/after care procedures.

Major Duties:
Duties include but not limited to: Perform a wide variety of direct patient care tasks in support of multiple surgical specialties including podiatry, orthopedics, vascular, general surgery, wound care, cardiothoracic, and plastics under the supervision of an RN.
Chart appropriate history, findings, and treatments in outpatient records as directed by the supervising RN. Assure stock levels and care of all instruments in the surgical specialty clinic.
Answer inquires of other personnel in clinic. Take and report vital signs and weight as directed. Perform routine clerical functions as needed across multiple software applications.
Perform clinical support functions as needed in fast paced multidisciplinary environment. Take and pass a basic nail & foot care course to assist in the podiatric nail clinic.
Use of various clinical sets such as EKG, blood draw, bladder scan, sterile field prep. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:0pm Telework: This position may be authorized for telework.
