Job Description

Summary

This job involves working in the community to help people with tuberculosis complete their treatment by delivering medications, observing them take their medicine, and keeping track of their progress.

It's a hands-on role that requires daily travel and close teamwork with health professionals to prevent the spread of TB.

A good fit would be someone reliable, compassionate, and comfortable building trust with patients from diverse backgrounds.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a county vehicle to deliver medications
  • Experience or training in providing Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) and reporting patient concerns or side effects

Full Job Description

Public Health – Seattle & King County is seeking a Health Outreach Aide to join its innovative team.

The Health Outreach Aide plays a key role in supporting tuberculosis (TB) treatment in the community.

This position helps ensure individuals with TB receive the support needed to complete treatment successfully.

The role includes daily fieldwork, frequent patient contact, and close coordination with the TB care team to promote treatment adherence and prevent the spread of TB.


Background

The mission of the Tuberculosis Program is to prevent the spread of TB in King County with a vision of a TB free King County.

The program provides clinical services to individuals diagnosed with or suspected of active TB and those recently exposed to TB.

Our multidisciplinary team provides case management, clinical care, Directly Observed Therapy (DOT), Outreach, education, and collaborates with the community to support TB treatment and prevention

Work Schedule

Typical work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. This is a non-exempt position and is subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible.


Work Location

The primary base location for this position is at the Harborview Medical Center located at 325 9th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104; however, this position will primarily be working in the field.


Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Driving a county car to deliver medications.
  • Providing Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) and VDOT reporting any concerns or side effects.
  • Collecting specimens and maintaining accurate electronic health records.
  • Communicating regularly with nurse case managers and participates in daily huddles to share updates on patient progress and field activities.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate the following (Minimum):

  • Knowledge of communicable diseases and prevention.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage time and plan daily travel efficiently.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and commitment to equity.
  • Basic computer skills.

The most competitive applicants will have the following experiences and qualifications (Desired):

  • Experience with medical records documentation.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Teams.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Licensing, Certification and Other Requirements:
  • Documentation of current BLS CPR certification with AED training required at time of hire. CPR/AED Heartsaver courses do not meet this requirement.
  • Washington State Driver’s License or the ability to provide transportation to locations with limited or no public transportation services.
