This job involves handling and managing hazardous waste generated at a naval shipyard in Hawaii, including collecting, storing, transporting, and disposing of materials like chemicals and paints while following safety rules.
Workers assist senior staff in inspections, sampling, and record-keeping to ensure everything is done safely and correctly.
It's a good fit for someone with hands-on experience in waste management or environmental tasks who is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and comfortable working under supervision in a team setting.
You will serve as a HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSER in the ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION (Code C106.3) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision To qualify for the WG-6: My experience includes performing tasks such as: the identification, collection, consolidation, containerization, transportation, storage, shipment and recordkeeping of a shipyard's generated solid and hazardous waste such as acids, caustics, paints, solvents, and a variety of other chemicals under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion.
To qualify for the WG-5: My experience includes performing tasks such as: the initial screening of hazardous waste for compatibility with container, color, turbidity, or other waste characteristics under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
