Job Description

Summary

This job involves maintaining golf courses in Seattle by mowing turf, repairing irrigation systems, planting greenery, and operating equipment to keep the grounds in top shape for visitors.

About The Division:

The Golf division Maintains the 4 Golf complexes in the city of Seattle, Bill Wright, Interbay, Jackson, and West Seattle.

About The Position:

This position works under the general supervision of the Golf Course Supervisor and is led by a Golf Course Technician or Senior Golf Course Technician. Personal contacts are with golf course patrons, and vendors when picking up supplies or performing maintenance.

This class is the second level of a two-level class series in the service and maintenance occupation group.

This class is distinguished from the Golf Course Groundskeeper I by the emphasis on the specialized techniques and standards required for maintenance and repair of golf course and related facilities.

Employees must have knowledge and ability to operate various hand and power tools and will operate a variety of motorized equipment and vehicles utilized in golf course maintenance.

This is a 8-month reoccurring position.


Requirements

· Mows greens and fairways; roughs bunkers and tee areas; cleans and rakes sand bunkers; maintains ball washers and related facilities; changes cup and tee placements.

· Operates mowers, tractor and gang mowers, aerifiers, trailered equipment and small power equipment such as drills, chain saws, grinders and buffers, solder guns, air hammers, compressors, and other tools, equipment and trucks used in golf course maintenance, construction, and repair work.

· Aerifies, seeds, top dresses turf and lays sod; plants and maintains bushes and flowers.

· Constructs, installs, and repairs golf course sod according to design plans and diagrams.

· Digs holes and trenches in order to maintain or construct irrigation and drainage lines; shores excavation; installs pipe and backfills excavation; repairs and maintains irrigation systems.

· Performs various landscape work including installing railroad ties for the development of flower beds, raking, digging, tree planting, pruning bushes, cutting brush and applying non-license chemicals.

· Assist with adjustments to electronic irrigation system.

· Reads work orders and obtains needed supplies; completes forms and writes simple reports on work; maintains accurate records of time and materials used.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Six months experience in golf course grounds maintenance or general landscaping.

Desired Qualifications:

Golf Course Maintenance experience. Ability to work in all types of weather. Operate Golf Maintenance Equipment in an efficient manner.

License, Certification and Other Requirements
A current Washington State driver's license is required.


Additional Information

Special Working Conditions and Work Schedule: Shifts start as early as 4:00 AM and includes weekends.

Requires the ability to work outside 95% of the time, in all types of weather conditions. Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. May need to utilize some personal protective equipment such as respirator, gloves, ear protection, boots, and hats.
